We're In Love! We've Been Rescued by a Malte-Poo

I'm continually frustrated by the stray animals that I find who don't have collars, tags, chips, etc. The loose dogs and cats in our neighborhood always seem to find me and I try as hard as I can to be congenial and polite when I return them to their owners and kindly remind them that their pets should be wearing something that will help them to be returned home.

But now I'm completely contradicting myself! A friend of the family found the cutest stray dog last week a couple of towns over. He had no collar, no tags and no chip. And now I feel like the luckiest family on the block!

It's official, we're all in love. Mutley, I mean Fluffy, no sorry Gunner, I mean Romeo! We've gone through a few names here, is the absolute sweetest, smart and funny little dog. He's a Maltese Poodle mix, about 1.5 years old according to the vet an absolute joy to be around. Such a happy little guy.

Pet Adoptions: A Great Way to Heal from Pet Loss

I am a huge advocate of rescuing animals, adopting one of the thousands of cats or dogs that don't have homes and may soon have abruptly ended lives.

Last week one of our Peternity artists, Carla Fish had to make the incredibly difficult decision to put down her sweet, beloved cat. She was devastated.

But when I checked in with her on Monday, she was doing amazingly well and was happy, excited and smiling (I could hear her smile through the phone).

On Valentine's Day she adopted this precious Cocker Spaniel puppy, Valentino. I just love the old man look of his face. He looks like an old, old soul. Isn't he cute?!!

Peternity Rescues a Senior Golden Retriever

We have a new family member! Bobo!! Over the weekend we adopted this precious, big, love of a golden from the Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles Rescue.

He's the perfect family dog with our young children, ages 2 and 4 and he LOVES to eat. We met some friends for dinner last night and when we came home his head was all crusty. Hmmm . . . and the floor was all sticky. Hmmm . . . oh! And there in the backyard was a chewed up brown sugar bag. Mystery solved.

He's quite the sharpie for getting into cabinets. We have a little work to do - a little rearranging in the kitchen and perhaps some cabinet locks.

He will be my new daily walking partner and we're already so in love with him. He's such a good boy!

Show Off Your New Pet!

One of my favorite parts of my job is when customers send me pictures of their new pets. Not only does it make me feel like maybe we helped them, if just a little bit, in moving on from losing their previous pet, but the pictures are always so much fun to look at!

Pet Loss: All Furry Friends Great and Small

We live on a canyon in Southern California so I know that the coyotes, rattlers and tarantulas are around, but I just push that into the back of my mind and go about my business. After 5 years of living here I've never actually seen any of these creatures so it almost seems like they're not really here, but rather are legend, kind of like the Loch Ness Monster.

Well last week this legend became reality. I took my two toddlers to the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles, which was big hit. Besides the token dinosaur, we saw a family of coyotes and oodles of other stuffed animals, as well as a live rattlesnake and a live tarantula . . . in glass cases. Okay, the rattler and the furry "T" gave me the willies, but being completely encased, I could kind of handle it.

Tri-Color Sable Havanese Puppy!

It always brings such a smile to my face and a warmth to my heart when one of my customers sends me photos of a new puppy, kitten or bird. Today I received photos of 9-week old Mikey! So I wanted to share them with you.

Isn't he cute? He lives in Rancho Mirage, CA and is sure keeping them on their toes! His mom says that "he's a real handful"! He is the first entry into our New Furry Friends! Photo Album. Check it out in the sidebar on the left.
